Located in the Près la Rose park, the Science Pavilion is a pure marvel of scientific discovery that offers you a different view of science. Its main assets: a desire to do things right that hits the nail on the head every time and makes the carefully prepared exhibitions accessible to all, and the permanent presence of presenters in the exhibitions. Whether they are temporary or permanent, the latter do not fail to transport the visitor to the heart of their subject with disconcerting ease. le Pavillon des Sciences

Located in Lajoux, the Maison du Parc is the headquarters of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park. Visitors will find a reception area, a permanent exhibition and a shop.<br />

The permanent exhibition, entitled "Haut-Jura, terre vivante" (Haut-Jura, a living land), takes visitors on a journey of discovery through playful, colourful, sensory and interactive installations, revealing all the facets of the Haut-Jura (please note that the permanent exhibition is closed to the public for works until the end of November 2023).<br />
Sound immersion immerses you in the sounds of the Risoux forest, and a visit to the attic takes you back 200 years, to the time of customs officers and smugglers...<br />

Maison du Parc du Haut-Jura

THE FRAC<br />
The Frac Franche-Comté is an exceptional place dedicated to the discovery of contemporary artistic creation. It is intended to be a place of discussion and meetings open to all audiences. The Frac is located in the Cité des arts, a building designed by the architect Kengo Kuma, with the Archidev agency (Hervé Limousin and Séverine Fagnoni) and the landscape designer Jean-Marc L’Anton. This building on a human scale and with a soft and luminous aesthetic was designed to facilitate the discovery of the works by the visitor during his stroll. He discovers a constantly renewed program based on an ambitious temporary exhibition program and multidisciplinary cultural proposals.<br />
<br />
This program is based on the Frac collection, rich in 626 works by 316 artists, which since 2006 has favored works questioning the vast question of Time, an issue chosen for its permanence in the history of art, its topicality but also for its anchoring in regional history. Since 2011, within this collection of works exploring the question of Time, the Frac has endeavored to develop an axis dedicated to so-called "sound" works.<br />
<br />
The Frac covers more than 4,600 m2, including two exhibition rooms of 400 and 100 m2, a conference room, educational workshops, 2 apartments and 1 studio for artists in residence and reserves for its collection.<br />
<br />
The Conservatory and the Frac work in synergy to offer highlights throughout the year, particularly on the occasion of Museums Night or European Heritage Days.<br />
The Frac Franche-Comté has also set up, in partnership with the Conservatory, a documentation center with more than 6,500 works, around artistic, cinematographic, architectural and musical themes.<br />

Echoing the exhibitions, the public is invited to a wide variety of events: meetings with artists, conferences, performance evenings, video evenings, concerts, dance ...<br />
<br />
The Frac collection is also "centrifugal": it is thus deployed in the region and is also the subject of numerous loans in France and internationally. Since 2015, the Satellite, a truck transformed by the architect Mathieu Herbelin into an exhibition space, has continued to travel to meet distant audiences.

Fonds Régional d'art Contemporain

After a four-year closing to carry out renovation work, the Besançon Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology has reopened its doors in the heart of the city. <br />
The expanded spaces, new showcasing of two existing architectures (Pierre Marnotte, 1842 and Louis Miquel, 1970) and importance given to incoming daylight by the firm Architectures A. Scaranello, offer visitors the opportunity to truly rediscover the site and its collections.<br />
Most striking upon entering the museum is the unique architecture, which combines a granary built in the nineteenth century with a crude concrete structure, evocative of the "museum of unlimited growth" concept invented by Le Corbusier. The two architectures interact, echoing the archaeology and fine arts collections, respectively. <br />
Part of the French and international cultural landscape, the oldest public collection in France, born in 1694, can take pride in the breadth and depth of its collections. In addition to the international renown of its European graphic arts collection (more than 6,000 drawings), it also boasts significant archaeological holdings (Egyptian, Mediterranean and regional collections), numerous sculptures, ceramics, goldsmiths’ pieces and an exceptional collection of paintings representative of the main currents of Western art history from the end of the 15th to the 20th century. <br />
Concurrent to this, a contemporary art route, highlighting a form less present in the museum's collections, elicits thoughts about fine arts and archaeology. ”<br />

Musée des Beaux-Arts et d'archéologie

The History Museum has three distinct areas. <br />
The archaeological section in the basement describes the life of people in this territory even before the town was founded, from the first prehistoric settlers to those of the Middle Ages, via the Gallo-Roman world that has left so many traces. Between the Vosges and the Jura, the Territoire de Belfort, a place of trade, commerce and war, is a dense and rich archaeological zone that is still little known.<br />
The Bartholdi-Lefèvre area on the ground floor showcases two sculptors of great importance to Belfort's collections. The rooms give pride of place to Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904), sculptor of the Lion of Belfort, and Camille Lefèvre (1853-1933), a major donor. Six rooms are devoted to their collections of sculptures, paintings, engravings and old photographs.<br />
The historical section on the first floor evokes Belfort's civil and military past from the time of Vauban's intervention, and in particular the various memorabilia linked to the defence of the town during the siege of 1870, including the personal effects of Colonel Aristide Denfert-Rochereau, who gloriously defended the town.

The Musée du Temps in Besançon: a museum in a palace<br />

Located in the heart of a prestigious Renaissance palace, the Granvelle Palace, the Time Museum retraces the great moments of watchmaking in Besançon, bringing together the history of time measurement and the history of the city.<br />
<br />
The evocation of Besançon as a "watchmaking capital" is reflected in the museum through the city's heritage collections. In addition to the famous Leroy 01, long considered the most complicated watch in the world, the museum presents some of the instruments of the Besançon Astronomical Observatory, which certified the correct operation of the chronometers, as well as the educational material of the National Watchmaking School. In addition, the watchmaking collections offer an overview of the history of the discipline, with Ferdinand Berthoud and Antide Janvier representing some of the greatest names in watchmaking history.<br />
 <br />
At the same time, tapestries, famous people, relief drawings, historical paintings, furniture and objets d'art invite us to delve into the history of the place, the town and even the Franche-Comté region.<br />
<br />
To finish, a panorama of the city's roofs is offered to visitors after contemplating Foucault's famous pendulum, located at the foot of the palace tower, which gives rhythm to the Earth's rotation.

Musée du Temps

Established in a distillery that was in operation until 1978, the Ecomusée du Pays de la Cerise (Cherry Country Ecomuseum) retraces, through its buildings and collections, the history and techniques of the distillation and cultivation of the cherry tree in the Fougerolais region. <br />
It bears witness to 150 years of distillation, sales and cherry know-how. The visit begins in front of the imposing mansion and guides the public to meet the families who have learned to master the surprising alchemy of transforming the fermented fruit into a crystalline liquid: kirsch. From harvesting to bottling, from the stills to the attic, the visitor discovers all the secrets of cherry production.

Calling all curious nature lovers!  Set off on an exciting, fun and interactive tour of the animals, insects and plants of our region. A cabinet of curiosities invites you to immerse yourself in the continents and an interactive digital experience. Temporary exhibition 2024: Plant legends: tales are born in the forest.<br />
And every school holiday period, you can take part in the "Nature Escapades", themed outings and workshops, on your own or with your family, as well as planetarium sessions for an exciting discovery of the sky and the stars. <br />
There are also courses for children aged 8 to 14: astro courses, tracking courses and micro rocket courses.

Centre Eden, Education-Découverte-Nature

Two stone lions guard the gate preceded by a bridge. Four round towers (14th century) protect the main building (15th, 18th century), which features mullioned windows on the courtyard façade, in contrast to the numerous openings on the exterior façade. The satirical gentleman Roger de Rabutin (Histoire amoureuse des Gaules), cousin of Madame de Sévigné, was born here in 1618.

Château d'epiry

Lab71 in Dompierre-les-Ormes, a cultural facility run by the Saône-et-Loire department, takes you on an exciting adventure in science, innovation and culture. The annual exhibitions, events and workshops leave plenty of room for hands-on experience and participation by all those who are curious!<br />
Astronomy, biodiversity, food, energy, water, landscape, optics, robotics, police investigations... at Lab71, you can experiment, observe and play with things! Workshops are offered during the school holidays every season. Lab71 will also be putting your logic to the test in its escape game #9, an unusual mix of science and investigation!

The Coal Mining Museum is located on the former Saint-Claude colliery. Tours will make you discover how miners used to work in Blanzy-Montceau coalfield and how techniques evolved during the 200 years during when the mines were working. Musée de la Mine 

In the footsteps of the journeyman carpenters... !<br />
Come and discover the masterpieces of the journeymen carpenters and the history of the carpentry school founded in 1871 in Romanèche-Thorins. Its founder, Pierre-François Guillon, a journeyman carpenter, taught his students drawing, material cutting and woodworking techniques. Carpentry and companionship are listed by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity.<br />
Visit the museum as a family with the children's trail for 3 to 8 year olds.<br />
Last visit 1 hour before closing time (November to February inclusive).

Centre Régional d'art Contemporain

Alain Geoffroy, a great winegrower from the Chablis region, has a passion for old winegrowers' tools and for old corkscrews. The winegrower has gathered an impressive quantity of objects and tools relating to the work of the vine. To date, his collection includes nearly 9000 pieces. All these objects tell their story in a remarkable exhibition that traces the work of the winegrower. An astonishing collection of 4900 corkscrews from the 18th century to the present day. A second floor is open to visitors with tools related to the work of the vine and wine. Private collections.

Musée de la Vigne et du Tire-Bouchon

The garden of La Borde was entirely created by its owner from 1997. The 7 ha of meadows were arranged in a park which is divided into six parts: an arboretum (50 species), a vegetable garden, a rose garden, a French garden, an orchard, a wood and its pond, entirely integrated into the surrounding nature.

Jardin de la Borde

Situated along the Burgundy canal, this old tile factory has its INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE: two chimneys (one 30 m high), wagon railway, clay seam nearby, ovens, machines and tools from the period, collection of stamped tiles and bricks. During the guided tours, demonstration of flat tile and floor tile making. Possibility of free visits. New: the 'SIMON-HOFFMANN' kiln (2 galleries 20m).<br />

Musée de la  Tuilerie Aux Granges Sous Grignon

This interpretation centre is dedicated to the memory and history of the worst-hit martyred village in Burgundy. The interior tour, consisting of 3 rooms, gives a voice to the survivors and shows the physical and moral reconstruction after an event of extreme violence. <br />

The exhibition features audiovisual creations that give pride of place to testimonies and emotions. Outside, the tour of the village takes visitors to places steeped in history and memory.

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of blackcurrants at the Cassissium. Enjoy a gourmet experience with family and friends, with three activities: <br />
- the "Cassissium" tour: fun and interactive museography dedicated to blackcurrants, guided tour of the Maison Védrenne production workshops, tasting of the Maison's products with alcohol (crème de cassis, liqueurs, eaux-de-vie) and/or without alcohol (syrups). An original tour suitable for all, young and old. <br />

The regional Arts and Techniques Museum<br />

sources such as the steam engine, electricity,<br />
or even the spark ignition engine<br />
completely transformed the work habits<br />
and shops of the artisans represented<br />
here – the cobblers, shoemakers, cheesemongers,<br />
bakers, etc.<br />
Modern methods of transportation such<br />
as cars and bicycles existed alongside traditional<br />
horse-drawn vehicles, and several<br />
examples of the latter are on display here.

Musée Départemental des Arts & Techniques

The Musée Départemental de la Montagne is located in Château-Lambert, a village in Haute-Saône at an altitude of 700 metres with a population of 14. The museum is one of three Albert &amp; Félicie Demard departmental museums created on the initiative of Albert Demard, his wife Félicie and his son Jean-Christophe. <br />
<br />
At the foot of the Servance balloon, on a ridge overlooking the Moselle valley and the upper Ognon valley, Château-Lambert is a picturesque little village where time seems to stand still. The village owes its name to a castle, the "Chastel Humbert", or rather an eagle's nest that stood on the heights where the statue of Notre-Dame des Neiges now stands. Nothing remains of the castle, which was destroyed in 1643 during the Ten Years' War, a Franc-Comtois episode in the Thirty Years' War. <br />
The village of Château-Lambert is a frontier in more ways than one: it is located on the border between the departments of Vosges and Haute-Saône, on the border between Franche-Comté and the Grand Est region, and on the boundary between the North Sea and the Mediterranean basin. <br />
<br />
It was in this setting that Albert Demard wanted to set up the museum, to explore themes associated with the mountain environment, the difficult life of the peasant miners, their farming activities and the work they carried out in the mines. He also talks about the forestry and woodworking trades, which are very present in this part of Haute-Saône.<br />
<br />
The tour begins in the farmhouse, a modest, rudimentary dwelling typical of mountain farms, in which the living quarters of the peasant-miner are recreated as they were before the First World War. The entrance to the house is through the kitchen, followed by the "stove", the most important room that could be used as a dining room and bedroom. The animals are not forgotten, and the cowshed bears witness to the poverty of the peasant-miner, who often only owned a cow and a few goats. Farming activities are evoked in the attic, where various tools used to grow cereals, particularly rye and buckwheat, are on display.<br />

The reconstructed classroom in one of the museum's rooms is reminiscent of a village school at the end of the 19th century. Various instructions for pupils are posted on the wall. If they weren't obeyed, the teacher had a range of punishments at his disposal: spankings, dunce caps, knocks on the fingers, etc.<br />
<br />
Outside, there is a pathway where visitors can discover not only the trades of the forest, but also the beauty of the landscape. The peace offered by nature and the harmony of the site should not make us forget the harshness of the work of the woodcutters, clog makers and charcoal burners.<br />
<br />
For a long time, the village had two main activities: mining and farming. There is a section devoted to this mining past. From 1578 to 1632, under Philip II, copper ore was mined by miners from Auxelles, Giromagny, Germany and the Tyrol. Hundreds of people dug into the rock with hammers and pointers to extract the copper. In 1616, Château-Lambert had an estimated population of 700. The miners lived on site in modest houses, often made of wood. After a period of decline, activity picked up again from 1896 to 1920, and then from 1936 to 1944, when molybdenum was extracted, a lead-containing ore used to harden steel. This metal was then mined during the Second World War to support the German war effort. Mining came to an end in 1944.<br />

The hamlet of Château-Lambert can be the starting point for a number of walks, including the "Sentier des écoliers" ("Schoolchildren's Path"), which allows you to follow in the footsteps of schoolchildren from days gone by and discover views over the valley. 

Musée Départemental de la Montagne

Set on a rocky promontory, the Château de Ray-sur-Saône is a building of remarkable architecture, nestling in the heart of six hectares of wooded parkland, a veritable jewel case of greenery. The site offers an exceptional panoramic view of the village of Ray-sur-Saône, a small town full of character in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. An emblematic feature of the landscape, its powerful silhouette dominates the Saône valley. <br />
<br />
Built in the Middle Ages, Ray was a fortress belonging to powerful lords. Largely destroyed by the wars of the 17th century, the castle was rebuilt on the ruins of the old fortress. It was in the 18th century that it took on the classical appearance it still has today. The gardens also bear witness to the various landscaping developments that have followed the Château's evolution. The majestic site has been fully listed as a Historic Monument since 2009.<br />

Since October 2018, the Department of Haute-Saône has been engaged in a major restoration programme. During the works, the Château will remain open!<br />

Chateau de Ray-Sur-Saône

The Saut du Doubs boats Cast off!  The Saut du Doubs, before being a waterfall, is preceded by the basins of the Doubs, a natural reservoir set between high cliffs. To discover this unique natural site, inaccessible by road, there is nothing like a boat. Immediate boarding!  "My great-great-grandfather sailed with a paddle-wheel boat. Today, times have changed, you will board a boat powered by GPL Marine, liquefied natural gas, which is much more eco-responsible", announces Tiffany Droz-Bartholet, the latest representative of the endearing family line which has been running Les Bateaux du Saut du Doubs for five generations now.  We are here on one of the most visited natural sites in the region, which attracts some 300,000 visitors per year. We meet at Villers-le-Lac to board the boat. It will take thirty minutes to complete the outward journey, sailing along the meandering river.

The first museum in Franche-Comté to be awarded the "Musée de France" label, the Musée de la Lunette is the repository of the living memory of the evolution of eyewear since its origins. Inaugurated in 2003, it has been awarded the "Musée de France" label by the Ministry of Culture and Communication as well as the "Tourism and Disability" and "Quality Tourism" labels. <br />

The Musée de la Lunette is housed in a resolutely contemporary building located opposite the Town Hall and fits perfectly into its urban environment surrounded by forests.  <br />

Temporary exhibitions can be seen regularly and programmes of activities and mediation are offered throughout the year. <br />


Musée de la Lunette

The history of the château begins in 1175 with a keep built on a promontory overlooking the valley through which the Burgundy canal now flows. A sumptuous chapel was built in the 13th century. In the 14th and 15th centuries, it was fortified with a powerful wall and five defensive towers. Around 1460, Philippe Pot, Seigneur de la Roche (Château de la Rochepot), became the owner of the château. He was a private adviser to the Duke of Burgundy, Philip the Good, and one of the knights of the Order of the Golden Fleece. He rebuilt the fortress and refurbished the chapel. The mantelpiece of the Great Hall's monumental fireplace still bears Philip Pot's motto "Tant L Vault", dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The chapel is entirely decorated with 15th century murals depicting Christ and the apostles. Also worth seeing is the polychrome replica of Philippe Pot's tomb, the original of which is kept in the Louvre Museum. From the 16th century onwards, the château was owned by several prominent families, including the Montmorency and Vienne families. In 1936, Count Georges de Vogüé donated the château to the State. The collections were regularly enhanced, notably with a fine suite of 7 17th-century tapestries depicting episodes in the life of Moses. Apart from a few interior alterations, the château has retained its medieval character. <br />
<br />
In 2008, the Burgundy-Franche-Comté Region volunteered to continue restoring the château, making it the centrepiece of a heritage and cultural project linked to the region. <br />
An unprecedented restoration campaign will run from 2022 to 2024. It has resulted in improvements to the visitor experience, including the construction of a new reception area and shop, disabled access for most of the site, and the opening of new museum areas. The whole site is enhanced by an innovative landscaping project. <br />
As well as being a tourist attraction, the château is also part of the region's identity and collective memory.<br />

Château de Châteauneuf

In 1098, a group of monks from Molesme Abbey arrived to an out way location – the Cîteaux forest – in order to lead a simple life, in line with the teaching of Gospel. Today, the Cîteaux Abbey is a community belonging to the Order of cistercians of Strict Observance. It has about 30 brothers committed to following a certain lifestyle : the art of seeking God, knowing one self, fraternity through prayer, work, reading, living together and leading ascetic life.  A spiritual and cultural voyage through the 900 years of Cîteaux’s history will enable you to get acquainted with Cistercian art, Medieval limming, a XVe century library and a XVIIe century noviciate. Abbaye de Cîteaux

The Abbey of Fontenay was founded by Saint Bernard in 1118. It is one of the oldest Cistercian abbeys in Europe.    The Romanesque architecture offers a remarkable unity to all buildings remained intact since the Middle Ages. The Abbey was transformed into a paper mill after the French Revolution by the family Montgolfier and was bought back in 1906 by Edouard Aynard, the ancestor of the present owners who continue on safeguarding this masterpiece of Romanesque art.    The old Abbey of Fontenay (12th century) was one of the first monuments to be inscribed on the Unesco world heritage list. This classification has distinguished the exceptional value of Fontenay and its environment.

Abbaye de Fontenay

Vauban's masterpiece and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Besançon Citadel is considered to be one of the most beautiful in France. It towers more than 100 metres above the old town of the Comtois capital, set in a meander of the river, and offers spectacular panoramic views from its ramparts. A major cultural and tourist attraction, the Citadelle delivers on its promise of a living heritage that is full of emotion.<br />
In addition to the admirably restored 12-hectare architectural complex, the Citadelle is home to three Museums of France behind its ramparts, offering a fascinating range of attractions:<br />
- the Musée Comtois, an exhibition of the traditions of Franche-Comté and a place to reflect on our times<br />
- the Musée de la Résistance et de la Déportation (Museum of the Resistance and Deportation), which reopened on 8 September 2023 after being closed for more than three years, including 16 months of renovation work. <br />
- the Museum, which illustrates biodiversity and helps to preserve endangered species in its various areas (Zoological Garden, Aquarium, Insectarium, Noctarium and small farm). Nowhere else in France is it possible to see such a diversity of animals in one place.<br />

Citadelle de Besançon

The Chapel of Ronchamp (in Franche-Comté), is a place of high historical, artistic and spiritual value.<br />
<br />
Le Corbusier built a chapel there in 1955, which since July 2017 has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Jean Prouvé realized a campanile in the 1970s and recently, in 2011, Renzo Piano works on the hill. Thus was born the harmonious architectural ensemble consisting of the monastery of St. Clair, the Porterie, the campanile and the chapel Notre-Dame du Haut. <br />
<br />
All these contemporary architectures belong to a natural environment of exception. The panorama extends over the four horizons: to the north with a unique view of the Vosges balloons, to the east on the Belfort Hole, to the south on the first Jura summits and to the west on the valley of the Saône.<br />
<br />
The hill is a place of Marian pilgrimage of centuries, the two most important of which are held on August 15 and September 8, the day of the Assumption and the birth of the Virgin. Since 2009 a community of Sisters (Sainte Claire) lives on the hill and provides a permanent spiritual presence.<br />
<br />
Since 1799 the site is private. It belongs today to the Association for the Work of Notre-Dame du Haut (AONDH, association law 1901) which ensures the maintenance and the management.

Colline Notre-Dame du Haut

The Citadel, built in successive stages from the Middle Ages to the end of the 19th century, served as an "entrenched camp" for the people of Belfort during the 1870 war. Thanks to the Citadel, the city's valiant defenders were able to hold off the siege and maintain their resistance. Bartholdi made it even more famous with his impressive lion sculpture. A place steeped in history that leaves no one indifferent. <br />
Free admission except for the History Museum and the Lion Terrace.

A symbol of the town's heroic resistance during the assault of 1870-1871, the Lion of Belfort owes its existence to Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the famous sculptor behind the Statue of Liberty. A colossus made of blocks of pink sandstone set against the cliffs of the Citadel, it is now an integral part of the town's identity. Its dimensions are gigantic: 22 metres long and 11 metres high. On 26 February 1802, the house at 140 Grande Rue in Besançon was the birthplace of a world-famous writer, Victor Hugo.<br />

Unlike the other houses where he lived, the Maison natale de Victor Hugo is neither a museum nor a place of memory. In a contemporary scenography that leaves a lot of room for multimedia, the struggles of this committed man are presented since the opening of the Maison Victor Hugo.<br />

The ground floor of the museum's permanent exhibition evokes the links that Victor Hugo maintained with his native city. The staircase leading to the upper floor combines the chronology of 19th century French history with the key events in Victor Hugo's life. A partnership with four international associations highlights the relevance of these struggles in the 21st century.<br />

Each one bears witness to the unique link between a society and its environment. Musée des Maisons Comtoises

The Territoire has been forging its reputation as a hotspot of industrialisation since 1777. This is the date when Frédéric Japy moved to Beaucourt and began producing early watches, and machine tools which were more efficient and less expensive. He went on to fully mechanise his production systems for watches, alarm clocks, and clocks. From 1806, Japy started to produce bolts and screws.  Around  this time he also passed on the baton to the next generation. As a true 18th Century captain of industry, Frédéric Japy still stands out as a forefather of industrialisation.

Louis Pasteur (1822-1895), the inventor of the rabies vaccine, returned to Arbois throughout his life. His house has been preserved intact. From the billiard room to the laboratory, you can enter the intimacy of the scientist. The garden. The house, recognised as a Maison des Illustres in 2013, is part of the Jura Museums network.<br />

Louis Pasteur's house in Arbois is an absolutely unique heritage site, still inhabited by the presence of the scientist. Preserved as it was when Louis Pasteur lived in it, the house immerses visitors in the life and work of the scientist.<br />

Listed as a Historic Monument, Louis Pasteur's house in Arbois was awarded the "Maisons des Illustres" label by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication in 2011, at the same time as the house in which he was born in Dole.<br />
<br />
Pasteur lived in this house in Arbois all his life, and it was the only one he ever owned. Little remains of his father's modest tannery, where he spent his childhood, because Louis Pasteur transformed this house into his "Château de la Cuisance", and furnished it to his taste. In this house, to which he returned every year, Pasteur combined business with pleasure: surrounded by his family and friends in the living room or dining room, he could devote himself to his research in his private laboratory. It was in Arbois that he carried out his work on fermentation and it was there that he perfected the famous pasteurisation process. Thanks to experiments carried out in his vineyard at Montigny-les-Arsures, he was able to definitively challenge the belief in the spontaneous generation of micro-organisms.<br />

Musée de la Loire

Inaugurated on 26 June 1983 by François Mitterrand, the museum is the work of historians and former members of the Resistance. It has been completely renovated and modernised for the 2023 season.<br />
Located within the Maison du Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan, the fully renovated museum provides an insight into the role and importance of the Resistance in the region during the Second World War. <br />
<br />
Thanks to its extensive collection, the museum offers a close-up view of history. Numerous objects, archive documents, equipment, photographs and weapons are on display in three rooms: Occupation, Resistance, Liberation and Remembrance.<br />
Halfway through the museum, a projection area immerses visitors in the daily life of the maquis: actions, encampments, the role of the leader, hunger, fear, courage...<br />

It's an essential step before setting off on the trail of this period in the Morvan.

Maison des Hommes et des Paysages

A jewel of the French Renaissance, Sully and its towers are quietly reflected in the water of the surrounding moat. In this beautiful family castle was born the famous Marshal de Mac Mahon, one of the first Presidents of the French Republic. Today inhabited by his descendants, the Duchess of Magenta and her children, Sully breathes French history and joie de vivre. <br />
Once you have passed the heavy gate of the castle, you enter a timeless universe. The sumptuous Renaissance main courtyard - "the most beautiful castle courtyard in the kingdom of France", according to Roger de Bussy Rabutin - meets the facades of the 18th and 19th centuries and the towers of the Middle Ages. Écomusée de la Bresse Bourguignonne

Located at the foot of the Roche de Solutré in the heart of the Solutré Pouilly Vergisson Grand Site de France, the museum presents collections from one of the richest prehistoric sites in Europe. It tells the story of the life of Upper Palaeolithic hunters at Solutré, and highlights the original aspects of Solutré culture. <br />
The archaeological and botanical garden completes the visit to the museum. This signposted trail is around 1 kilometre long, with 8 key points covering geology, hunting techniques, the landscape in prehistoric times, the discovery and first excavations on the site, contemporary excavations, the site and its remains. You can also discover the exceptional botany of the site, with signs indicating the plants and trees that can be seen along the way.<br />

Musée de Préhistoire de Solutré

At the end of a small dirt road stands the impressive facade of the Château de Ratilly, a true medieval fortress built on foundations from the 11th century, completed in the 13th century, then partly transformed during the Renaissance. The four corner towers, the two entrance towers defending the drawbridge, the moat and the dovecote surround the charming square inner courtyard. Since 1951, the pottery workshop, exhibitions, shows and courses have made Ratilly a leading art centre.

Château de Ratilly

In sieben Sälen begegnen Sie den Vorfahren unserer Diktiergeräte, Lasergeräte, Hifi--Anlagen und Walkmans. Diese in Europa einmalige Sammlung mit 1000 Exponaten, von denen die meisten noch funktionieren, wurde vom Industriellen Armand Noguès zusammengestellt und erzählt von der Geschichte der Schallplatte und den Anfängen des Radios: zweihundert Jahre Geschichte - zum Sehen und Hören. Built by the monks fleeing Noirmoutier in the face of the Norman invaders, to house the relics of their holy founder Philibert, the Tournus abbey church is one of the most prestigious sanctuaries of early Romanesque art. Remarkably preserved, its pink and ochre stones dominate the city of Tournus on the right bank of the Saône. It is a masterpiece on the path of companionship. The interior of the abbey surprises by its dimensions, its height under the vault, the light of the nave and the great nave as well as by the slender pillars and the vault formed of transversal cradles. The abbey church contains a crypt and the Chapel of St. Michael. Medieval mosaics depicting the zodiac are now visible. Connected to the church by the parlor, the abbey buildings include the cloister, the chapter house, the refectory and the cellar. <br />

Abbaye Saint-Philibert

Bibracte is the name of an ancient Gallic town on Mount Beuvray, capital of the Eduens, one of the most powerful peoples of Gaul. In the museum, you will discover the daily life of its inhabitants and other Celtic peoples of the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. Discover, through objects from excavations, models, reconstructions and audiovisuals, their crafts, agriculture, trade, but also their religion, art and culture. Come and see for yourself that these people were much less barbaric than Caesar would have us believe... The museum also has temporary exhibition rooms, a splendid bookshop, a tea room and a restaurant serving Gallic cuisine.

Lajoux, a small village of 248 inhabitants, is located in the heart of the Jura Mountains. It is the highest village in the Jura massif, reaching an altitude of 1165 metres. In the heart of the Hautes Combes, you will be surrounded by splendid and unique landscapes: majestic forests of spruce and fir trees, combes and dolines shaping the territory, all with a view of the unavoidable Jura Mountains. <br />
In winter, the snow-covered valleys are covered with a white coat, allowing for a wide variety of activities: cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and downhill skiing thanks to the ski lift in the heart of the village. <br />

Site Nordique de Morbier

Located in the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park, the small village of St-Pierre / Trémontagne (respectively the name of the village and the name of the forest where the ski runs are located) is ideal if you want to get off the beaten track and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Jura Mountains. <br />
Close to St-Laurent en Grandvaux, the village of St-Pierre has 39.2 km of cross-country ski trails for all levels (from green to black). There is also a 1.2 km disabled trail. You can also go snowshoeing on one of the two marked snowshoe trails. <br />
And if you want to diversify your activities, the proximity of the other Grandvaux villages means you won't have to travel too far.   <br />
The pistes start from the road between St-Pierre and Chaux-du-Dombief.<br />

A veritable synthesis of 1,000 years of the history of fortification architecture, the Château de Joux experienced many of the major European conflicts: passage of Charles the Bold in 1476, occupation during the Thirty Years' War in 1639, the signing of the surrender during the French conquest of Franche-Comté in 1674... <br />

From the 18th century onwards, the Château de Joux discovered a new vocation, that of state prison, alongside the Bastille and the Château d'If. A great many inmates were to discover the rigours of prison life within the walls of Joux and among them was the Comte de Mirabeau who, several years after his escape, was to play his part in the French Revolution as one of the authors of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. The Château is also a major stage on the Abolitions Trail linking 4 sites which are symbols of the fight against slavery (Maison de la Négritude in Champagney (Haute-Saône), the birthplace of Abbé Grégoire in Emberménil (Meurthe et Moselle), the Victor Schoelcher Museum in Fessenheim (Haut-Rhin) and the Château de Joux (Doubs).

Located in the north of the Jura Mountains, the northern site of the Val de Vennes is situated in the commune of Fournets-Luisans.<br />
The Val de Vennes, situated between 900 and 1,000 metres above sea level, is marked by the typical landscapes of the Haut-Doubs: fir and spruce forests, valleys, combes and old Comtoises farms.<br />
This Nordic site offers the possibility to practice cross-country skiing and snowshoeing (5 km trail). In the Val de Vennes, you can ski on 15 km of slopes (skating and classic) but there are links with neighbouring sites (Les Combes / Gilley) which offer a total of 30 km of slopes<br />
Animated by an association of enthusiasts, the Nordic site of Val de Vennes will allow you to rent equipment and picnic in a heated off-piste room.

Bellefontaine is a small Jura village in the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park. With its unspoilt countryside, renowned lakes and forests, Bellefontaine is an essential stop-off point during your stay in the Jura Mountains. <br />

Situated at an altitude of between 960 and 1270 metres, the village offers a wide range of activities: cross-country ski trails for all levels (from the green trail for absolute beginners to the black trail for regular skiers), numerous snowshoe trails, and a not-to-be-missed link through the Risoux forest to the village of Bois d'Amont. <br />

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009, the Grande Saline de Salins-les-Bains is an ancient salt production site, unique in Europe.<br />
Here, for 1,200 years, men have exploited the naturally salty waters gushing up from the subsoil to extract the precious white gold. It was thanks to the Grande Saline that the town of Salins-les-Bains prospered, becoming one of the most powerful cities in medieval Franche-Comté.<br />
Accompanied by a guide, you will first descend into the very heart of history, into the two brine extraction shafts protected by majestic vaults. This monumental gallery, built in the 13th century like a cathedral, is 165 metres long and 10 metres high in the very heart of the town. Today, it still houses a pumping system powered by a bucket wheel and a large 19th-century balance wheel, which is still in operation and pumps up brine containing 330 grams of salt per litre (saltier than the Dead Sea!). The tour continues in the evaporation building, where you can get a feel for the working atmosphere of the salt workers. Everything here is preserved and authentic: the tools, the salt trolleys, the gnawed woodwork and the last salt pan in France, a moving reminder of the salt industry's working memory.<br />
 Closed in 1962 due to a lack of modernisation and too much competition from sea salt, the Grande Saline still retains all its production tools, giving visitors a better understanding of salt production in Franche-Comté. A veritable industrial and architectural treasure trove, the Grande Saline is a living site to be discovered with the heart. It's a story that our guides will bring to life for you every day with passion.<br />

Access to the gallery is via a 53-step staircase and the underground temperature is around 12°C.<br />

la Grande Saline de Salins-les-Bains

Le Consortium is managed by the association le Coin du Miroir and was rewarded the label ‘art centre’ in 1982. In the renovated and extended building of more than 4000 m2, designed by the Japanese architect Shigeru Ban (Pritzker Price 2014) and his French assistant Jean de Gastines, temporary exhibition are being held every year since 2011. The objectives of the art centre are that of the production and exhibition of contemporary works of art, the enrichment of public heritage, and the promotion, spreading and education of art and the thinking about art today.

The BAUD estate is located in the heart of the Jura vineyards, at the foot of Château Chalon and just a stone's throw from the Baume les Messieurs retreat.<br />

	Independent winegrowers since 1742, we produce a wide range of wines under 6 appellations: AOC Côte du Jura, AOC Château Chalon, AOC Etoile, AOC Crémant du Jura, AOC Eaux de vie du Jura and Macvin du Jura.<br />

	The family estate has been handed down from generation to generation, sharing its historic know-how and ancestral expertise. The estate has been run by the 9th generation, Clémentine and Bastien, since 1 January 2016.<br />
 <br />
 	Our vineyard is spread over 25 hectares of vines, with an annual production of 150,000 bottles, 30% of which is Crémant du Jura. We also produce fruity wines and traditional wines for laying down. Most of our production is sold throughout France to hotels, restaurants and wine merchants. We also take part in 25 wine fairs a year to sell our wines. <br />
Since 2014, the estate has been certified Terra Vitis, a label recognising environmental practices. We also use integrated farming methods, with the aim of producing quality wines according to weather conditions and vintage variations.<br />

Today, our Gingerbread is still hand made with carefully selected ingredients to provide our customers with high quality product.<br />
In March 2012 the House Mulot & Petitjean was awarded EPV ('Living Heritage Company') for its history and its ancient heritage, its capacity for innovation, and its rare skill.<br />
<br />
On the occasion of its 220th anniversary in 2016, Mulot et Petitjean, has built an extension of more than 1000m² on its manufacturing site located 6 boulevard de l'Ouest in Dijon.<br />
Besides the renovation of the production tool, this extension allowed the creation of a museographic space and a shop in the historical part of the building on about 400m ².<br />
This space will allow visitors and consumers to discover the history of Dijon's gingerbread andMulot and Petitjean's family and of course the secrets of  Dijon's gingerbread recipe.<br />

Along the Swiss border, the village of Les Fourgs is what is known as a "resort village". <br />
Les Fourgs - l'Herba: a family resort par excellence, the Les Fourgs ski area has all the services you need for a relaxing week: ski school, equipment hire, easy and more difficult slopes, play areas, toboggan runs, downhill ski station, etc. <br />

A thousand and one truffles<br />
<br />
The Dukes of Burgundy enthroned it on the table of the kings of France. For some years now, the Burgundy truffle - Tuber uncinatum for the specialists - has been the object of a real revival in the Côte-d'Or. <br />
<br />
A movement inspired by a very active brotherhood and by the Côte-d'Or Truffle Association, which brings together the producers and cellarmen of the department. The Côte-d'Or Tourist Board has just launched the Burgundy Truffle Route. It is 118km long and can be travelled from the south to the north of the department, by car from Nuits-Saint-Georges to the Maison de la Forêt in Leuglay... passing through Marey-les-Fussey. This is where Thierry Bezeux and his team from L'Or des Valois run the Maison aux Mille Truffes. <br />
Cellar dog<br />
You will come across a terribly endearing dog: Julio, a Lagotto Romagnolo who will take you on a cavage demonstration. You will discover why the Côte d'Or soil is so favourable to the black gold, and you will taste 100% truffle meals, including an astonishing glazed nougat. Even if the truffle season is concentrated between September and March, the site is open all year round and offers several options. The events are available on reservation, but you can, during the opening hours, freely walk around the shop of local products. The Burgundy truffle is available in a variety of products, so you can continue the experience at home.
