Masterpiece of Comtadin art dating from the 18th century is one of the most remarkable Jewish places of worship known today. The synagogue was rebuilt during the 18th century, occupying the first floor. It contains authentic Louis XV style furniture, as well as a Judeo-Comtadin Museum.........

Guided tours only. Bearing witness to the life of the Jewish community during the 17th century, Cavaillon was a place of refuge just like the other French cities of Avignon, Carpentras and L&#39;Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. The life of the city revolved around the synagogue. It was rebuilt in the 18th century (1772-1774), showing Proven&ccedil;al and Jewish cultures living together, as befitting one of the few Jewish communities to be tolerated. The lower hall, the former assembly hall for women, now houses the collections of the Judeo-Comtadin Museum. - Guided tours every hour. - Access with the Pass from July 1rst

Synagogue and Jewish Museum of Cavaillon

Listed as a historical monument, this stately home, adorned with an outstanding garden and Roman temple, is located at the heart of the ancient city of Cavaillon and hosts exhibitions all year around. It is a real cabinet of curiosities in its unique combination of ancient art with contemporary; on display are prehistoric objects, archaeological excavations from antiquity and the Middle Ages, Renaissance paintings, sculptures, photographs, and installations. At the same time, visitors can also discover Renaissance-era roofs, a 15th-century Gothic tower with gargoyles, the oldest Grecian statue discovered in Provence (550 BC, discovered on St Jacques' Hill), the oldest pharmacy equipment in France and a reliquary bust of Pope Urban V. Archaeological excavations have determined that the garden is 2000 years old - probably the oldest in France. This stately home transports visitors across a thousand years of history as they wander within its walls.

Museum Hôtel d'Agar, Cavaillon

This charming château, located in fabulous surroundings facing the village of Lourmarin and open throughout the year, was the very first Renaissance castle built in Provence. The old wing, built in the late 15th century by Foulques d’Agoult, is one of the two sections which comprises the castle.

Lovely Italian-style loggia which lends the Ch&acirc;teau a certain &quot;grand elegance&quot;. Fully furnished 16th century Renaisssance wing which houses 15th to 19th century art collections. 
Open to visitors all year round. In summer, it becomes an artists&#39; residence (painters, sculptors, musicians etc.), earning it the nickname &quot;The Villa Medicis of Provence.&quot; The castle also serves as a cultural centre, hosting extravagant artistic events in summer including jazz and classical music concerts as well as plays, on the castle terraces.

 
The Amis de Lourmarin Association organises conferences on various themes throughout the year. There are also numerous other celebrations including a Renaissance festival, a Spring pop and rock festival and a classical music festival in the summer as well as a variety of exhibitions.

Ochre mines of Bruoux, Gargas

The Candied Fruit Museum, located within La Maison du Fruit Confit (or the house of candied fruit) shop, offers visitors the chance to enter into and explore their workshops. 
Visitors are welcomed into a discovery and exhibition area containing old machines, historical documents, an olfactory and taste trail as well as videos accompanied by explanatory panels. Our company museum presents the history of know-how and confectionery techniques from ancient times to the present day.

Visits are possible every day at 10:30 am.
Opening of the shop from Monday to Saturday from 09:30 to 12:30 and from 14:00 to 18:30.

In 1962, several Apt confectioners&#39; family businesses decided to form a cooperative: it was the birth of Aptunion. It was not until 1988 that the factory shop was born, first named Les Fleurons d&#39;Apt, which today became La Maison du Fruit Confit. The shop, within the premises of Aptunion&#39;s production workshops, offers direct sales of candied fruits and Proven&ccedil;al specialties. The museum space transports the visitor to the world of candied fruit in the heart of the Luberon. This modern and multimedia discovery course stimulates the 5 senses.

If you get there a little early, get straight to tasting with a pastry and a drink in the cosy tea room. La Maison du Fruit Confit is a must-see in Provence!

This museum tells the main steps in the true adventure of the industrial activity which has impacted and continues to influence the history of the area and the life of local inhabitants since the 18th century.....


Industrial activity in the Apt area is characterised by three main natural resources - ochre to make colour pigment, clay to make faience ware and architectural ceramics, and fruit orchards to produce the fruit for the candied fruit industry. Around these three industries, several related activities, such as packaging, mechanics, and sulphur extraction, have sprung up to work with these three main products. The museum&#39;s collections preserve the memory of all those who worked in processing this natural resources. The museum is in the former Marliagues candied fruit factory.

Museum of Apt

The Saint Bénezet bridge, also known as the ‘Pont d’Avignon’, has been a major witness to
the history of Avignon and is known throughout the world thanks to the famous song, “Sur le
Pont d'Avignon''. The bridge was built in the 12th century but was washed away several
times by the flooding of the Rhône, and in the 17th century it was finally abandoned.
However, it remains a classified World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

An exceptional museum combining traditional and contemporary elements. The Lambert Collection in Avignon is a unique contemporary art museum, born from the initiative of an art dealer and collector, Yvon Lambert, who donated an exceptional set of major works to the State by the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. Housed in two magnificent 18th century mansions in the heart of Avignon, the Lambert Collection hosts ambitious exhibitions and a varied cultural and educational program, with the support of the State, the City of Avignon, the region as well as private patrons.

Founded on the historic donation of dealer and collector Yvon Lambert, the Collection Lambert, museum of contemporary art, reopened its doors to the public in July 2015 after having doubled its exhibition space. The hotels of Caumont and Montfaucon now host a selection of works from the permanent collection (Sol LeWitt, Douglas Gordon, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Anselm Kiefer, Niele Toroni, Andres Serrano... whose works are presented alternately) and exhibitions temporary artists from the current art scene.

Since 1996, in city mansion in the heart of Avignon, the home of the museum&#39;s founders, the Angladon museum displays works from the collections of the great Parisian couturier Jacques Doucet. 
According to the will of the donors, the rest of the house has retained the charm of an interior of art lovers with many paintings, furniture stamped and objets d&#39;art: 17th and 18th century salon, Renaissance room, workshop of artists, cabinet of Far East.

This private mansion, former home of the collector Louis Vouland (Noves 1883 - Avignon 1973), is located in an area that was built up at the end of the 19th century to the west of Avignon, near the Rhône, on the site of the former Dominican convent or Friars Preachers.

The museum presents a permanent collection of Decorative Arts from the 17th and 18th centuries. It also presents works by 19th and 20th century Proven&ccedil;al artists from the museum&#39;s collection, during thematic or monographic exhibitions.

Museum Louis Vouland, Avignon

The Lavender Museum is a must for all nature lovers interested in true fine lavender. The Lincelé Family initiated this fabulous project in 1992, and leads the visitor to discover the 'true lavender of Provence, fine lavender. The visit takes you through a rich collection of lavender stills from the 16th century to the present time, and is commented in 11 foreign languages on the audio-guides, leaving visitors free to visit the museum in keeping with their interests. 
See all the rooms, collection and the projection room showing documentaries filmed at Chateau du Bois at the base of Mont-Ventoux, on planting, harvesting and the distillation of fine lavender from Haute Provence.

Lavender Museum

A multi-disciplinary approach - historical, literary and artistic - to daily life in France during the Occupation. Presentation of the Resistance in Vaucluse. Arts and letters during the pre-war period to the Liberatoin.

The museum is the brainchild of the Departmental Assembly and its President Jean Garcin, &quot;Colonel Bayard&quot; in the Resistance. The aim was to bear lasting witness to a recent history, while going beyond the anecdotal nature of the event to express and promote a universal ideal.

One of the greatest decorators in the history of French and American cinema, Willy Holt, who won a C&eacute;sar for decoration in 1988 for Louis Malle&#39;s film Au revoir les enfants, contributed to the museum project.

The museum is temporarily closed. Reopening planned for 2024.

Museum of History Jean Garcin

The Petrarch Museum of poetry preserves the written and artistic legacy of two major artists: Francesco Petrarch (1304-1374) and René Char (1907-1988). Petrarch’s poetry and intellectual heritage, as well as his contributions to mediaeval literature and culture, can be found in the museum, alongside the illustrated first editions of Char’s poems. The museum also features an exhibit of modern art by twentieth century artists.

An impressive literary and cultural showcase set in the heart of a narrow valley, the Petrarch Museum invites visitors to discover the exceptional beauty of its site and its abundance of cultural wealth.

Separated by five centuries but stood side by side today, the works of Francesco Petrarch and Ren&eacute; Char are preserved in the museum, which was founded in 1927 in a home built upon what is believed to be the property of the Italian poet.

- The Mythical Triad : 

The museum&#39;s iconography features drawings and prints of the celebrated triad of Petrarch, Laure and La Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, as artists imagined and painted them over the centuries, as well as a collection of ancient prints of Petrarch&rsquo;s works which includes volumes written by French and Italian Petrarch scholars.

- Writing and Painting :

There is also a small collection of first editions which reveals the pictorial collaboration by the artistic brotherhood of Braque, Giacometti, Miro, Picasso, Sta&euml;l, and oters who illustrated the poems of Ren&eacute; Char.

- The Water Treasure : 

This museum&#39;s marrying of modern and mediaeval, in its featuring of works by contemporary artists alongside its collection of antique volumes, renders it a compelling and refreshing artistic space.

Museum and Library François Pétrarque, Fontaine de Vaucluse

This Bories village was listed as a Historical Monument in 1977 and is home to the largest collection of bories, including sheepfolds, bread ovens, wine storerooms, fences, enclosures and walls. It is a traditional heritage site that represents the Provençal countryside's unique identity. A genuine marvel!

Bories, also referred to locally as Gallic huts, are built from dry stone walls, without the use of mortar, based on the architectural principle of the corbelled vault. These traditional huts were constructed from stones found on site, a practice that continued up until the last century. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the increase in population forced farmers to grow crops on new land. The stones extracted from the limestone hills and ground around Gordes were used to build &quot;farm&quot; huts. 
The Bories Village, restored between 1969 and 1976, stands today as it did when the last inhabitants abandoned it approximately 150 years ago.&nbsp;&nbsp;

For 8 generations and over 2 centuries, the Brun family has travelled the world in search of the finest wool, transforming them in their factory in l’Isle sur la Sorgue. A shop and interactive museum have just opened to tell the story of this wonderful adventure.

The shop and its museum, where visitors embark upon a multi-sensory experience, is located along the canal of Comtadine Venice, in a wing of the two-hundred-year-old family-run factory. Pierre and Jean-Louis Brun, the 7th and 8th generation now at the helm of the company founded in 1808, wanted to share their passion for noble fibres and the rare craft of &quot;wool making&quot;, a time-honoured trade that transmits the 
values of local know-how, solidarity, sustainability and eco-responsibility, for the softest blankets that are kind to our planet.

To better understand the industrial adventure of ochre which completely transformed the Vaucluse landscape from Roussillon to Rustrel in “Provencal Colorado”, you really must visit the Conservatory in the former Mathieu Factory. Here everything is still ochre-coloured, from floor to ceiling, creating a remarkable contrast between the earthy colours and the bright hues of the pine trees which stand outside the building.

In this former ochre factory created by those who began the whole adventure in 1871, you can visit and discover basins, ovens, red and yellow ochre mills and a garden used to grow plants for dyeing purposes.&nbsp;

A presentation of how cardboard boxes were made and printed in Valréas, the capital of French cardboard manufacture, from the mid-19th century to the present day.

Everything started with a silkworm&hellip;

In the middle of the 19th century, Ferdinand Revoul from the Vaucluse developed a box designed to transport silkworm eggs imported from China and Japan. These boxes allowed air to pass through thanks to small holes in the bottom and the lid. It was an ingenious system that marked the beginning of the whole packaging industry in Valr&eacute;as.

Unique in France, this museum, opened in 1991 houses souvenirs of the packaging and printing trade which has brought prosperity to Valr&eacute;as since the middle of the 19th century. It shows the methods of manufacture and printing of cardboard boxes from its beginnings to today.

The museum also has a bookshop and gift shop.

Historical

The H&ocirc;tel de Simiane is built on the remains of an old house that was constructed by the Montauban family in the 13th century. In the 14th century, Hugues Aymeric had the two buildings which are still visible along the Rue de l&#39;H&ocirc;tel de Ville built. The main part of the current building was built in 1639 by the Cavaillonnais entrepreneur, Bernard Moureau, according to the plans of the Avignon architect Fran&ccedil;ois Royer de la Valfeni&egrave;re, for Louis de 
Simiane. This architect was responsible for the design of many buildings in the Comtat, notably, the bishopric of Carpentras. It was not until about 1780 that the symmetry of the property was restored, with the replacement of an old building by the south wing. This was the work of Avignonnais architect Franque, who also designed the bishopric of Viviers. In 1823, the Ch&acirc;teau de Simiane was home to the college and the Justice of the Peace. It was not until 1843, by order of King Louis Philippe, that the city of Valr&eacute;as was authorised to buy the castle, which then became the Valr&eacute;as Town Hall and the post office. In 1913, the Ch&acirc;teau de Simiane was classified as a historical monument.

&nbsp;

The building today consists of two distinct parts.

To the west, the oblique wing of the fourteenth century comprises two buildings aligned, the largest of which houses a room per floor. Above the lower room located on the ground floor, the so-called Saint-Christou room on the first floor is illuminated by broken windows, only one having been walled off on the south facade. At the top lies the Scharff room, whose four-sided roof was originally covered by a set of complex diaphragm arches dating back to the 14th century. From there, a stolen passage, carried by the great arc that spans the street of the Hotel de Ville, led to missing buildings (hayloft, stables).

The main body of l&rsquo;Hotel de Simiane occupies the entire width of the ground. Its two symmetrical wings either side frame the main courtyard. It has a Doric portico resembling the Colosseum, most likely inspired by the architect&rsquo;s years of training in Rome. The style of windows on the building&rsquo;s facade were also at that time called &ldquo;the Roman&#39;&#39;. Did you know that the Palais des Papes is the biggest gothic palace in the world ? Or, that it
