Built in 1900 by Ferdinand Arnodin and towering 50m above the Charente, it facilitated river crossing without hindering navigation between the arsenal, the port and the estuary until 1967.
An arch on the Grand Site de l'Estuaire de la Charente - Arsenal de Rochefort, it is a masterpiece of metal architecture and the last structure of its type in France.
The Pont Transbordeur site will be open from Saturday March 30 to Sunday November 3, 2024.
The gondola suspended above the water allows pedestrians and cyclists to cross between Rochefort and Échillais. Classified as a Historic Monument, the Pont Transbordeur and the 7 other bridges around the world are aiming for UNESCO World Heritage status.
Discover its history at the Maison du Transbordeur interpretation center on the Échillais riverbank. Free admission.

Ticket booths at the foot of the bridge on the Rochefort side and at the Maison du Transbordeur in Échillais.
Crossings every 10 to 15 minutes, subject to good technical and weather conditions. Last crossing 15 minutes before closing time.
