Ôkhra - Conservatory of ochres and color

To better understand the industrial adventure of ochre which completely transformed the Vaucluse landscape from Roussillon to Rustrel in “Provencal Colorado”, you really must visit the Conservatory in the former Mathieu Factory. Here everything is still ochre-coloured, from floor to ceiling, creating a remarkable contrast between the earthy colours and the bright hues of the pine trees which stand outside the building.

In this former ochre factory created by those who began the whole adventure in 1871, you can visit and discover basins, ovens, red and yellow ochre mills and a garden used to grow plants for dyeing purposes.
