The Rodolphe Mine is one of the few remaining potash mining sites in Alsace. It still retains some of its original buildings, its two headframes, and two winding engines restored by members of the Rodolphe Group.

The Rodolphe Mine is highly visible in the landscape. It is also located in a rapidly developing tourist area, with the Ecomuseum (which spearheaded its rescue in 1987) and the Little Prince Park. Industrial tourism has a significant role to play here. The Rodolphe Mine is also a powerful memorial site, as it was the location of the worst potash mining disaster in Alsace, which claimed 25 lives on July 23, 1940.

Horaires

Guided tours of approximately 2.5 hours are offered on Wednesdays, departing at 9am and 2pm. The duration and theme can be adjusted (excluding public holidays).

The Rodolphe Mine is the only French mining site that allows visitors to discover the various techniques used to extract potash until 2003. A true industrial temple, the Rodolphe pithead was the most monumental and representative of the Kali Sainte-Thérèse potash mines until its closure in 1976. Accompanied by our miner-guides, visitors will have the opportunity to understand the workings of a mine and its underground installations. Following in the footsteps of the miners, they will pass through the "hanging room" (changing room), just as thousands of miners did before them, and explore the reconstructed workings where temperatures reached nearly 50°C. The visit will continue with the headframes and extraction machines (from 1912 and 1928), as well as a complete and unique set of machines from the bottom of the mine, and it will end with the screening of a film retracing the working day of an underground miner.
