Founded in 1967 by René Gouzenne and a few friends who loved theatre and poetry, La Cave Poésie started with productions from the TUT (University Theatre of Toulouse) and also through initiatives of creation, training, and dissemination of regional shows, under the auspices of the Federation of Secular Works of Haute-Garonne.

In 1977, La Cave Poésie René-Gouzenne continued its activities as an autonomous non-profit organization under the 1901 law, with René Gouzenne serving as Director until 2007. The association remains affiliated with the Ligue de l'enseignement de la Haute-Garonne. Initially equipped with a basement performance hall, La Cave Poésie gradually "expanded" with the creation of a public reception area on the ground floor, including a small bar to enhance conviviality and interactions between spectators and artists. This foyer has been transformed into a second performance hall, particularly for concerts.

Over the years, the programming has confirmed this diversity, offering theatre, music, song, dance, and poetry, always with the desire to discover new artists. René Gouzenne passed away in July 2007. Before his death, he established a board of directors to support the salaried team of La Cave Poésie.

Today, the board has about ten members, and the association has around fifty members. Supported by the Drac, the Occitanie Region, the Haute-Garonne Department, and the City of Toulouse, La Cave Poésie continues its mission in the service of literature and young creation.
