A pioneer of French urban art, she was above all a poetess in the city. Her literary, societal and philosophical projects, written in aerosol ink on walls, canvases and metal sheets over a period of more than forty years, are a veritable treasure trove.

For director Lauren Laz, it's a necessity, intimately linked to the museum's vocation: to constantly expand knowledge of what we preserve.
This necessity has prompted the museum team to revisit the entire collection, interrogate the storerooms, reopen the cupboards and drawers of this home, which preserves a heritage built up by several generations of collectors...

Come and discover or (re)discover landscapes, scenes of daily life and portraits by 19th and 20th century painters linked to Avignon, from Pierre Grivolas (1823-1906) to Jean-Marie Fage (1925-2024).

Exhibition "Circuit court"

Like the squares of a game of goose, each room in the museum will bear a strong characteristic, evoking the rich history of this unusual institution. In this playful arrangement, works from different eras and of different kinds come together through their links with poetry, literature and art history. Amongst this bubbling of references, books, fictions and personal memories, some mysterious objects from neighbouring museums or borrowed from friendly collections will also be presented.

Exhibition Alchimie de la rencontre - Works from the Collection Lambert

An installation like a sanctuary of sorrows, where each donated object bears the memory of an injustice and refuses to be forgotten.
The fruit of a collaboration between Lorraine de Sagazan and Anouk Maugein, Monte di Pietà lays bare injustice and the pain it provokes. For the occasion, the director and set designer have collected some two hundred objects: these are linked to traumatic memories of violence or crime, but their owners have not been able to bring themselves to throw them away. Labeled and consigned, these objects accumulate in the space to create a "sanctuary of sorrow".

Monte di Pietà exhibition

"Colombier (and this is his trademark) is the king of contre-jour; the king of fluid, Verlainian skies, but of a Verlaine who would be from the Midi" (Auguste Chabaud).
Yet Léon Colombier is the Parisian of the "new Avignon school". Settled in Roquemaure (Gard), then in Avignon, where he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts presented by Paul Saïn in 1894, his taste for landscapes led him to settle in Cavaillon in 1916, from where he turned his attention to the Luberon.

Léon Colombier exhibition

After a period of residency at La Chartreuse, during which David Coste immersed himself in the site and created works of art, he is proposing and developing an exhibition that will be displayed in the town's monuments.

Bringing together contemporary creation, heritage and ancient art, the exhibition enables everyone to take a fresh look at the collections and architecture, and to renew our perception of them through the singular eyes of an artist.

In a universe ranging from grandiose sites to Martian deserts, from the ruins of the cultural industry to the wreckage of history, from simple geometric forms to complex constructions, David Coste folds and unfolds possible scenarios. 

The world around: vestiges and omens" exhibition

Purity, elegance and depth of line in canvases that sound like a contemporary hymn to the architecture of the site.

This summer, La Chartreuse presents two artists: Louise Cara and Claude Garanjoud, two contemporary and timeless painters whose writing and inspiration reveal similarities in expression and shared inspiration. A bridge appears between the Avignon artist and the adopted Villeneuve painter. In the blackness of the line, in the transparency of the ink, in the shared affinities of spirituality. This is an opportunity to revisit the paintings of Claude Garanjoud (who died in 2005), whose works have been exhibited several times at La Chartreuse, and to discover the work of Louise Cara, who has created works for this exhibition in homage to the architectural spirit of the site.

Un fort, un fleuve: le Rhône" exhibition

Through a selection of works depicting Villeneuve landscapes, this exhibition highlights the art of painter Joseph Meissonnier (1864-1943).

Joseph Meissonnier "Color and Light" exhibition 

A singular visual artist, Patrick di Meglio accumulates hundreds of stork, seagull, buzzard, gull, woodcock and peacock feathers for his large-format works. He strips them, delicately stripping off beards and barbules, burning the down and leaving only the perfectly polished rachis. Playing on the contrast between the velvety and the sharp, this disconcerting material traces a new calligraphy in space, which the artist sometimes underlines with slate, metal or wood, thus composing symphonies with low, serene or joyful notes, but always original.

Traits de plume" exhibition, Patrick Di Meglio 

Joanna Staniszkis studied fine art in Warsaw, then at the Academy of Art in Chicago, and taught textile design and historical costume in Canada for many years. At the same time, she was creating tapestries in her studio, with a predilection for textures, hand-spun materials, natural dyes, plastic and technical exploration, as well as the concern to always conceive perennial works. "In the rich and vast vocabulary of fabrics, she finds inspiration and knowledge." Now based in the Lubéron region of France, her contemporary constructions offer translucent prints on silk and gauze, evoking the evolution of nature: growth, tangled branches or roots, decay, delicately woven nests... Printing, dyeing, stamping and pleating are all mastered with lightness, giving rise to magical installations and garments... With a historical bias that, after silk, embraces linen and hemp fabrics, echoing the ancestral knowledge of Provence.

Angladon Museum, Avignon 

Here you can discover the exceptional collection of 17th- and 18th-century decorative arts that Louis Vouland (1883-1973), a food industry industrialist, built up over some fifty years for this house where he settled in 1927. Furniture, earthenware, porcelain, tapestries, clocks, chandeliers, mirrors and Chinese objects create the intimate atmosphere of this timeless house museum, where the magic of the 18th-century spirit is at work.

The museum presents a permanent collection of Decorative Arts from the 17th and 18th centuries. It also presents works by 19th and 20th century Proven&ccedil;al artists from the museum&#39;s collection, during thematic or monographic exhibitions.

Museum Louis Vouland, Avignon  

Founded by Pope Innocent VI in 1356, it is one of the largest and most remarkable monasteries of the Carthusian order, with a church, three cloisters and forty cells, its gardens and the fresco chapel of the famous painter of the Papal Palace, Matteo Giovannetti. Today, La Chartreuse is also a major artists' residence....

The Chartreuse, Villeneuve lez Avignon  

On Mont Andaon, Fort Saint André was commissioned by Philippe IV le Bel and built under Jean II le Bon in the 14th century. This immense 750-meter-long fortification, built to protect the Abbey of Saint André and the town, enabled the King of France to assert his power in the region.

From Avignon, on the other side of the Rh&ocirc;ne and from even farther away, you can clearly see the fort standing proudly. But it is only once you are there&nbsp; that you can fully appreciate&nbsp; the strategic position&nbsp;of this fort dominating the Rh&ocirc;ne valley. From the top of its parapet walk, you can observe the Popes &#39;s Palace across the way, the Philippe IV le Bel tower, the saint Andr&eacute; abbey encompassed within the fort&#39;s defensive&nbsp; walls,&nbsp;the chartreuse&#39;s monastery in the village below and the entire surroundings countryside.&nbsp;

You can walk among the vestiges of the old medieval village and the chapel, visit the fort&#39;s buildings and rooms that have remained intact and learn about the aspects of military life from the Middle Ages up to the french revolution.

Museum of Pierre-de-Luxembourg, Villeneuve lez Avignon 

The monumental residence of the 14th-century pontiffs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest Gothic palace in the world (15,000 m2 of floor space, equivalent to the volume of 4 Gothic cathedrals).

The visitor can see over 20 rooms, scenes of historic events, in particular the pope&rsquo;s private chambers and the frescoes painted by the Italian artist Matteo Giovannetti. The Popes&rsquo; Palace also offers the visitor continuous cultural activities throughout the year.

The ticket includes the visit of the Palace of the Popes as well as the histopad which is a touch pad that allows to live&nbsp;&nbsp;a temporal immersion in the major parts of the monument, entirely re-constituted as they could be in the 14th century.
