"The beautiful stone star lost in the middle of the marshes usually plays coy! Yet Brouage hides a tumultuous history, made up of adventures across the ocean, bloody confrontations against a backdrop of civil war, an impossible love affair with a king, a fabulous treasure given by the sea and almost immediately taken back ... For once, the former guests of Brouage are not afraid to speak up: they have a lot to say about ‘their’ Brouage!"
Let yourself be surprised by this new kind of exhibition and enter the Halle aux Vivres de Brouage. A veritable granary for a government stretching from the Charente to the Gironde, this building bears witness to the architecture of the great 17th century. Built in 1631, the Halle aux Vivres is a one-storey building with a semi-buried ground floor made of brick and limestone. Its double cross vault supported by ten central pillars further underlines the elegance of this hall, which will now be used as an immersive space dedicated to the trading and military history of Brouage.
