From the first floor, the magnificent “relief plan of Rochefort”, nearly 5 m in scale, created by the engineer Touboulic in 1835, takes you into the heart of the royal city to better understand its layout and history.

Your visit continues with the presentation of a collection of paintings, not forgetting the extra-European collections through a space dedicated to contemporary Kanak culture and an exceptional collection of Australian Aboriginal art.
These include an exceptional collection of Australian bark paintings from Arnhem Land, the 2nd largest collection in France after the Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac.

The museum also features a space dedicated to Pierre Loti, retracing the life of this travel writer, from his childhood “little museum” to his costumes, his career as a sailor and his taste for social occasions. This chronological tour is combined with a 3D virtual visit of this “world house”, accompanied by a guide who recounts the history of its decor and the parties it hosted.
