The Musée régional de Fouras, which has been awarded the Musée de France label, is run by the Association des Amis du Musée. It presents an exhibition on the history of the region in the grounds of Fort Vauban.

High season, June 1 to September 15: Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 12pm and 3pm to 6.30pm.Low season: Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 2:30pm to 5:30pm.School vacations, February, Easter, All Saints&#39; Day: Tuesday to Sunday, 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Access by bus

Access by bus from La Rochelle in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region:  Stop at St-Laurent de la Prée - Line 155* (*from April to the end of September), bus connection to the R&#39;Bus network. <a href="http://transports.nouvelle-aquitaine.fr/cars-regionaux/reseau-et-horaires" target="_blank">Nouvelle-Aquitaine region bus</a> routes, timetables and traffic changes R&#39;Bus network bus connection : Mairie de Fouras stop - Line E<a href="http://www.rbus-transport.com/" target="_blank">R&#39;bus lines</a>, timetables and traffic changes ATTENTION: regional coaches and R&#39;bus network buses are not included in your La Rochelle Océan Pass. Free access to the Fouras regional museum, housed in the town&#39;s most important historical and military building, Fort Vauban, classified as a historical monument in May 1937.

From the terrace, also accessible during the tour and situated 36 m above the sea, you&#39;ll enjoy an exceptional view of the Charente estuary, the islands of Madame, Ol&eacute;ron, Aix and R&eacute;.
