In the magnificent setting of the Grand Hôtel-Dieu building, right in the city centre, the Musée des Soieries Brochier invites you to discover 130 years of history of a major Lyonnais family.
From 1890 to the present century, four generations and nine members of the Brochier family have weaved and printed several hundred thousand metres of silk, for the biggest names in haute couture and the art world.
Discover the dresses of Hubert de Givenchy, Christian Lacroix, Valentino and Yves Saint-Laurent, as well as creations by the great masters Miró, Calder and Cocteau, reflecting the strong relationships built between artists and the Brochier family.
Discover how the pursuit of innovation led to the adaptation of the Jacquard weaving loom to create technical fabrics for the Concorde, the “Canopy raft” and Venus probe balloons, and how silk thread is being woven with optical fibre to create the fabrics of tomorrow.
The Musée Soieries Brochier is an excellent starting point to visit Lyon, combining heritage and history. The shop, which is free to access, offers a wide range of square silk scarves and 100% silk hand-painted velvet fabrics, made in Lyon.
